Brief History: The eldest daughter of Richard and Melenie Miller, Persephone was born in 1904 and joined the Gay Paree Show as a performer in 1918, at the age of 14. Raised in the carnival with only her sisters, little brother and her parents for company, Persephone grew up extremely quickly, losing her virginity to a stranger at the age of 11. Persephone became close with her sister Venus after her sister's own "coming of age" experience. However, after witnessing their mother and Jonesy having sex, she refrained from divulging this to Venus, unable to admit to anyone else that she couldn't keep her sweetheart's affections. This fact came to light when Venus read their father's cards, and and an infuriated Venus planned a cruel revenge. Making a suggestive late-night date with Persephone (wanting assistance in understanding how sex can be pleasurable for the woman as well), Venus also arranged for Jonesy to arrive in the same place under the same impression several minutes later. Jonesy walks in on Persephone and Venus making out, and Venus berates Jonesy for sleeping with Melenie, and Persephone for failing to tell Venus about it.
Devastated by what happened with Venus, Persephone forms a bond with Jonesy over the affair. The two soon begin to fall for each other, and drunkenly marry each other. Although both her parents oppose the marriage, Persephone and Jonesy develop genuine feelings for each other. At one point, Jonesy is wrongfully blamed for a ferris wheel accident which killed several people. He and Persephone are kidnapped by the widower of one of the women killed in the incident. Jonesy is brutally tarred, feathered, and then left for dead with Persephone. They are coincidentally discovered by Phineas Milliner (and the ever lurking Malvolio Giovanni), who sends Peresphone away while Mal heals Jonesy. Peresphone and Jonesy are soon separated when Jonesy follows Stroud to rescue a fellow member of the show, and winds up being shot. Unaware of his death, but fearing the worst, Peresphone tearfully departs from Gay Paree Show with a stranger, Dartanian Castille.
